Established in January 2007, A Better Jamaica, Inc. is a tax-exempt nonprofit community service organization that engages in activities designed to strengthen a set of southeast Queens, New York neighborhoods known collectively as Jamaica. ChaRosa Foundation

ChaRosa Foundation Corporation is a community-based organization, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) charity established in 1984. Our mission is to promote, support and improve the quality of life for residents in the United States by “Helping People…Help Themselves!” This we are able to do through our Culture and Arts, Education, Employment, and Domestic Violence programs. Our goal is to increase participation, improve self-esteem, self-image, and self-worth for the people in our communities. Awareness and appreciation will result in productive citizens.

Community Mediation Services

What if all conflicts could be resolved this way? Community Mediation Services, Inc. has a holistic approach to conflict resolution that touches many thousands of people each year.

Community Mediation Services includes in its portfolio of programs the following Young Men's Initiatives: Justice Scholars; Arches-Transformative Mentoring Approach; AIM (Advocate, Intervene, Mentor). Each year, the Justice Scholar Program provides service to 40 young adults between the ages of 16-24. Participants are primarily residents of CD 12 and have had court involvement in the 12 months prior to their enrollment into the program. Arches is a group mentoring program that helps justice-involved young adults between the ages of 16-24 transform negative attitudes, behaviors and outlook. The goal of Arches is to help strengthen the youth's attachment to education work and community. AIM provides services to youth -- referred to the program through Family Court -- between the ages of 13-18. AIM youth and their families receive intensive attention (minimally 7 but up to 30 hours per week) that lasts from 6-9 months.

Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults

Since its founding in 1972, JSPOA, a not-for-profit organization, has had as its mission the coordination and delivery of a broad range of home-based and community-based services for older adults. JSPOA seeks to benefit older adults throughout Queens but primarily Southeast Queens. Its purpose is to enable its growing and diverse senior population to live as healthy, active, and productive citizens. JSPOA's priorities are determined by the community it serves.

LIFE Camp

LIFE Camp, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization, was established in April 2002. It exists to provide a “second chance” to youth who are disconnected from educational, employment, and social opportunities. The Queens, NY based organization is focused on youth, ages 13 - 24 years, who demonstrate patterns of negative behavior, are at risk of dropping out of high school, or who may become engaged with the criminal justice system. The mission of LIFE Camp is to help develop its participants into strong leaders and responsible entrepreneurs. Programmatically, LIFE uses the arts (specifically music and film) to: instill personal and community leadership skills; ignite critical and independent thinking, and; provide professional business training. When combined, these approaches will empower young people to make intelligent life choices. As a result, they will be able to build relationships that promote pride in self, in family, and in the community, thereby achieving holistic success in life.
